Now in my third decade of teaching, I was working within the senior leadership team at Epsom and Ewell High School at the inception of the Bourne Education Trust and was privileged to help Alex Russell shape its educational vision. I was given the opportunity to both develop my career as well as to support the BET in bringing its record of transforming schools to a wider audience by joining The Matthew Arnold School in 2014.  I spent eight years there as Headteacher, moving the school to ‘Good’, significantly improving GCSE results, overseeing the move to a new building, and creating a popular school that is oversubscribed in every year.

I am now privileged to be Headteacher at Chertsey High School. A BET school from the very beginning in 2017, it has achieved extraordinary success under Zelia Munnik. Now that the school has seen its first cohort of year 11s through GCSEs and is fully operational in all year groups, I will be looking more widely to collaborate with Trust and local schools to the benefit of us all.

Working within the BET has provided me with the leadership, guidance and resources needed to bring about sustained and sustainable improvement to a school experiencing difficulties and now to guide an already successful school to even greater heights; this has been achieved through a fundamental belief in the BET’s moral purpose; that no child slips through the net, and that we bring our individual approach to every aspect of a child’s journey through the school and beyond.
