BET schools update January 2021 – steering through a national lockdown

27th Jan 2021

Steering through the pandemic has been a significant challenge for schools, however with preparedness in mind, the Bourne Education Trust central team and school leaders supported by their staff teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that robust systems were in place to enable the 8,000+ children attending BET schools access to high quality learning in the event of a school closure, regional or national lockdown.

The support of the Trust has meant that headteachers could review and adapt much more quickly than if they had been working in isolation and concentrate resources on the quality of education and the wellbeing of their pupils, therefore following the Government’s announcement in January, staff had accessed targeted training, mastered the technology and BET schools were able navigate the challenges of a national lockdown confidently, offering far more interactive and live streamed lessons than in the first lockdown during 2020.

Collaboration between schools has been excellent and with a determination to ensure pupils within BET schools receive the very best provision, the Trust’s quality of education reviews will now focus on each school’s remote learning provision.

As of the 22nd January, the Trust was also pleased to report that it had received all 547 laptops BET schools were entitled to under the Government’s scheme, further enabling those children without access to a device from home.
