I have worked in state education since 2003, and I am passionate about levelling the playing field for all students and ensuring every child receives the best possible educational experience. As Deputy CEO of the Bourne Education Trust, I am committed to ensuring that our schools serve their local communities well and hold high aspirations for every pupil.
I began my career as an English teacher, and I firmly believe that literacy and oracy are central to improving life chances for all children. I am also a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and hold both the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL).
Before joining the Trust, I opened a new secondary school and had the privilege of leading it through its early development. Earlier in my career, I worked in several inner London schools, where I served as SENCo and led on key strategic areas including curriculum, teaching and learning, attendance, behaviour and safeguarding.
I have spoken at a range of conferences on topics such as digital opportunities in education, literacy across the curriculum, women in leadership and equality, diversity and inclusion - all areas I care deeply about. Alongside my role with BET, I serve as a Director on the Surrey Alliance for Education (SAFE) and am pleased to contribute to the Astrea MAT Board.
I also have three young children at different stages in their education, and I believe strongly that purposeful leadership and a fulfilling professional life can go hand in hand with a busy family life.
