Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly and with respect.
It recognises the sacrifices made by Service personnel, veterans, reservists and their families. It also aims to ensure that they are not disadvantaged because of their service. In some cases, extra support may be appropriate, especially for those who have been injured or bereaved.
Our commitment
Bourne Education Trust is proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant. We recognise and value the contribution made by serving members of the Armed Forces, Reservists, veterans, Cadet Force members and military families.
We are committed to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces community, past and present, are treated fairly and receive appropriate support.
We will support Armed Forces families by:
Supporting Service children
- Promoting the wellbeing of children from Armed Forces families
- Recognising their unique experiences and challenges
- Minimising educational disruption when families move schools
- Encouraging schools to appoint a Service Children's Champion where appropriate
School admissions
- We follow the School Admissions Code to support families and prioritise the needs of Service children within admissions arrangements where appropriate and allowed
Additional educational support and funding
- Supporting children receiving or awaiting specialist services
- Ensuring swift transfer of information when children move schools to minimise disruption to their education
- Using available funding effectively to support Service children and their families
To support the Armed Forces community we will:
- Promote Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, Remembrance activities and the Poppy Appeal
- Recognise the skills and experience veterans bring
- Support employment opportunities for veterans, military spouses and partners
- Support Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers with additional leave where possible to fulfil their duties
